Going sailing definitely is very different to when you go on holidays ashore, a mix of adventure, luxury, tranquility and excitement which can appeal to one and all!
Sailing trips are different to any other type of holiday for a number of reasons, one of the most important ones is lack of limitless space on board! The other one is that while sailing, you may end up sweating during the daytime, but feel chilly when night falls. With this in mind we present the ideal packing list for your sailing holiday so you will enjoy every moment on board and get the most out of your yachting adventure with Aegean Sea Cruises!
Essentials: Start planning your packing by selecting the right luggage! When you come on board don’t pack excessively. A duffle bag or even a back pack should be more than enough for a week’s sailing. Any hard-cased suitcase is difficult for your skipper to bring it on board and will fill up space in your cabin that you wish you had available for yourself!
For both men & women the necessary clothing you should consider bringing is:
Ladies particulars: A couple of strap tops, few vest tops, and 5-6 t-shirts will be enough for a week. A pair of denim shorts, a couple of dresses for a night-out and underwear will be the utmost essentials for a lady on a yacht! Sandals since you’re sailing Greece are also a must!
Men particulars: Guys, this is mostly so you don’t forget the important stuff! So, a couple of jeans or linen trousers along with a couple of shirts will be enough for looking like a yachtie when ashore! Apart from swimsuits, flip-flops, jacket and sunnies, a pair of closed shoes will be fine for when you’re about to go for a stroll & don’t forget your undies & a belt!

The North East coast of Corfu is one of the most scenic pieces of coastline in Greece. Exiting the marina with the lavish morning views, we head up the coast the olive grove and cypress green covered hills of Corfu preside over a multitude of small bays, beaches, coves and seaside villages, while over to the East lies the mysterious Albania and the mountains of Epirus.
After passing the luxurious filming location of the loved show “My family and Other Animals”, with the early days sun hitting just right, we quickly reach the long pebbled beach of Barbati, where the green mountains meet the sea. As we then cruise past Nissaki and its taverna, still belonging to the same family it did since the 60s, slowly reaching the small yet picturesque cove of Kaminaki.
Continuing further up the most beautiful coastline of the island we ascend on to one of Corfu’s hidden treasures. The small chapel of St Arsenios is perched on the rocks, with some hidden caves and the clearest of waters, making it ideal perhaps for the first dip of the day, where you can make the most of the snorkeling equipment to explore the world beneath us, or enjoy some refreshments on board in this private spot.
Just around the corner is Agni, one of the most popular spots on the northern part of the island, as it is home to three of Corfu’s most well known seaside tavernas, making a perfect lunch stop with a booking in advance always in recommendation.
Bays follow bays and round the next corner, we find a lovely seaside view of the village Kalami, the area where the treasures Lawrence Durrell once lived years ago.
Further on Kouloura, Kerasia and Agios Stefanos, collectively known to some as “Kensington-on-sea” from a British newspaper article referring to the many private villas dotted along the coast. As we slowly reach the north eastern curve of the island we find the beautiful Erimitis Beach, with waters worthy of the Caribbean, making it the perfect spot to enjoy some wine, fruit and jet around on our Aquatoys in the blueness.
Reaching the tip of the coastline we find cape Psaromita, and the hidden cove of Avlaki, dotted with a few luxury villas, and the fresh winds of the open sea making the waters slightly cooler. Round yet another corner the quaint fishing village of Kassiopi in the distance, again, one of the island’s top destinations for a slice of paradise.
Upon our departure to head back down the coastline, our crew will provide you with all the information, as well as guide you through your itinerary in order to assure you a memorable experience to always treasure.
DISCLAIMERS:
Enjoy the beauty of the Ionian Sea and visit some of this beautiful hidden gems:
• Mouse island
•Old fortress of Corfu town
• Blue caves of Paxos island
• Voutoumi & Vrika Antipaxos
• Gaios town
• Harbour of Loggos
• Boukari
Picture yourself gliding across the blue sea, enjoying the sun and view as we set off from Gouvia Marina and cruise past Corfu’s Port and Old Town, taking in the morning calm.
Leaving the little green island of Vidos to port, we head past the beautiful old town of Corfu, and of course its protector, the stunning old fortress.
Continuing south in the morning breeze, we spot the airport on our starboard, if we’re lucky we might see a plane landing or taking off in the golden background, as well as the famous mouse island.
Soon on the horizon two islands can be seen, Paxos and Antipaxos. As we cross into the channel connecting the three, we can now enjoy a slightly faster speed to get to our first destination.
The legend goes that the picturesque island of Paxos was created when Poseidon wanted to create a romantic retreat for his love, Amphitrite, and so he severed the southern tip of Corfu with his trident.
On the steep rocky West coast of Paxos, a series of caves await our visit. Each one more impressive than the other, you can trust our experienced captain to pick the right spot for you to get the perfect picture, as you explore the caves. If you like you can even stop for your first swim if the day with clear waters beneath and the beautiful rocky coastline as your background.
A little further South lies Antipaxos. Described by many as the “Carribean” of the Ionian Sea, Voutoumi Beach and Emerald Bay with their white sands and bright turquoise waters everything you wished for. Surrounded by smaller caves and beautiful rock formations, Antipaxos is truly a gem of an island. Here, let our crew throw anchor at the perfect spot amongst the busyness, and let the fun begin! Whether it’s enjoying the midday sun with a lovely glass of wine on the bow of the boat, snorkeling in the crystal waters, or shooting around on a Seabob, the next hour or two will surely be heavenly.
As the afternoon sun starts to hit, we depart this beautiful slice of paradise and head north towards Paxos again, this time on its East side.we quickly arrive in Gaios, the island’s quirky capital.
The harbor has two entries, the North one being especially picturesque, and we enter the long fjord-like canal that leads into the main harbor. As we turn around the last sharp bend, the view of the quaint little village of Gaios spreads out before us in all its Italian-like charm. A very popular destination in the Mediterranean, Gaios has many tavernas and restaurants to offer, such as the gorgeous Mediterraneo Restaurant, so feel free to ask the skipper to stop if you would like to explore this stunning little centre. If not, we’ll enjoy the picturesque views from the water before continuing on our journey.
A short distance up the coast again we find Loggos, a smaller village port, famous again for its excellent tavernas and restaurants, especially Vasilis Taverna Loggos, where the food is simply divine. There are also some perfect spots for swimming if this is preferred.
Although not as buzzing as Gaios, Loggos is also traditionally stunning and quite the popular attraction, so we would advise you to make a booking if you so wish, well in advance. We can of course also take care of this for you.
As lunch comes to an end, we say goodbye to Paxos, and start the scenic journey back up to our beautiful Corfu. As we reach the southern tip, we pass the gorgeous little harbour of Boukari, a great little spot for the last dip of the day, or even a late lunch at one of Corfu’s most renowned fish restaurants. If not, we continue up north, again cruising past the breathtaking Old Fortress, this time in the more golden evening light, and, assuming time allows for it, another great spot for our last swim could also be just of the quirky little island of Lazareto on our starboard side as we cruise up the eastern coastline of Corfu. As the day comes to an end, you will see the beautiful Gouvia Marina up ahead, and we hope you’ll have had the most magical experience ever with us.
Your time with us will of course be personalized to your wishes and needs, and any stops are of course flexible to your vision.
